The promise of imagery and analytics in agriculture is a hot topic for growers, investors and start-ups. On May 16, 45 people joined a Salinas AgTech Meetup panel to learn more about the ways that aerial imagery has the potential to detect crop stress, predict yield and reduce labor costs.
The panel of experts included Jeffrey Orrey from GeoVisual Analytics, Robert Morris from TerrAvion, and Chris Bley from InspecTools who shared their views on different types of imagery and what we can expect from analytics today and in the future.
GeoVisual Analytics and TerrAvion are residents at the Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology. The two company founders met at Western Growers’ Annual Meeting Arena event in 2015 where companies pitched in a “Shark Tank”-like format. During the pitch competition, GeoVisual Analytics was the panel favorite and TerrAvion was the audience favorite. Today, the two companies are partnering on a pilot project with hopes of presenting results this summer.
The panel discussion is among many events hosted by the Salinas AgTech Meetup—a group created to bring the technology, investment and agricultural worlds together. The Western Growers Center for Innovation & Technology is a co-sponsor of this local MeetUp.
