Chuck Templeton, of Seed2Growth Ventures (S2G), spent the day at the Western Growers CIT in Salinas on April 5, 2018. Templeton met privately with eight different CIT startups, where he was able to provide input on their business plans and discuss their financial objectives. He also gave them individual input on their fundraising outreach and timelines. As the managing director of S2G, a leading multi-stage investment firm focused on the food and agriculture industry, Templeton is in a unique position to guide startups through various stages of development.
Part of the innovation team from Taylor Farms came in to meet with the startups and Templeton as well. Taylor Farms was interested in what the S2G group is looking at in the AgTech arena. During a “working lunch,” the operations team from D’Arrigo Brothers joined the WGCIT startups and Templeton. All four people from D’Arrigo have different roles in cooling, production, packing, and shipping, so the residents found their conversation very interesting. Templeton was very interested in the “pain points” that D’Arrigo detailed, and in what technologies they are looking to invest.
There were two companies that were previously in contact with S2G, and they were able to follow-up with Templeton directly to make additional plans to meet in the near future. There were also meetings scheduled between Taylor Farms and D’Arrigo, and several of the startups, because of the conversations that started during the visit by S2G Ventures. As always, WGCIT startups would like to thank S2G, Taylor Farms, and D’Arrigo Brothers for their time!
